Wedding Philosophy

The most exciting and rewarding photographs are those that capture something true of the subject. This holds doubly true for photographs taken at weddings, because weddings are an outward declaration of love, the public embrace of an inward bond, and the only way to honor that is with honesty. In approaching weddings this way, authenticity becomes more important than trendiness; and photographs become more than pictures, they become records.

No matter the size of the ceremony, weddings are momentous and they are singular. The best service I can do you is to give you a meaningful way of looking back.

What to Expect

The majority of your wedding photographs will be unposed photographs of you and your guests. Most will be candids. I do my best to stay out of the way, to be unobtrusive, and to let you just relax and enjoy yourselves.

I'm a firm believer in quality vs. quantity, and I try to put some thought into every photograph. Conservatively, you can expect roughly 40 unique wedding photographs per hour to make it through the editing process.

Wedding Albums

Wedding albums are intensely personal: an image that might be visually appealing to me might not hold much meaning to you. That's why you choose the images that go into your wedding album. I'll then arrange the layout and a send you a completed digital copy for your approval.

Wedding albums range in size from 5x5" to 12x12", with traditional leather covers or a modern photo wrap. All photographs included in the wedding album are fully retouched, individually sized and sharpened. Album pages are 1/16" thick and are finished with a clear protective lacquer spray. I custom design all wedding album layouts; as a result, each one is fitting and unique. Albums are digitally printed and flush mounted to allow for two-page panoramic spreads.

Hardcover coffee table books are also available.

Bio

I came to photography in my senior year of journalism study. With nine extra credits to spend, I spent them all in the darkroom. Those were some of the happiest times of my college career, and I still enjoy the smell of fixer.

After graduation, I took a year off and moved to D.C. to attend the Washington School of Photography. Since then I've been a teacher's assistant, a darkroom tech, a photographer's assistant, and a business owner but always a student of photography. It's what I love to do.

Although journalism wasn't, in the end, for me, I took from it the discipline of reporting without embellishment, of recording with the goal of truth, which I apply to my work in photography. So I encourage all my clients to, please, come as you are.
